"Oracle" in concert at the Free Library of Philadelphia

  • Free Library of Philadelphia - Parkway Central 1901 Vine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19103 United States (map)

Join me and Zachary Mowitz for a workshop series exploring the cello's journey through time and the many ways its history can illuminate our hearing of music, past and present. This final workshop on 6/16 will be followed by a recital featuring the “Oracle” alongside a new piece by Ira Mowitz and staples from the solo cello repertoire. Participants will discover how this new music connects to the rich legacy of the cello's past, emerging with a deeper experience of music.

In this workshop, the third and final, Zach and I discuss how composers have followed in Bach’s footsteps. We will dive into the world of contemporary cello music, hearing the many ways composers today are pushing the boundaries of the instrument. The culminating recital, featuring “Oracle” and a new work by Ira Mowitz, will begin at 3PM.
